BAGHDAD - A U.S. soldier was killed when a roadside bomb detonated in eastern Baghdad, the U.S. military said. Another soldier was wounded.

BAIJI - A U.S. soldier was killed by an improvised explosive device near Baiji, 180 km (110 miles) north of Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

DIYALA - One U.S. soldier was killed and another wounded in an explosion in Diyala province, the U.S. military said.

KIRKUK - A roadside bomb targeting a police patrol in the northern city of Kirkuk killed two police officers and wounded three others, police said.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen wearing police commando uniforms kidnapped a departmental director in the Ministry of Public Works from his office in Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb killed one person and wounded eight people in the western Baghdad district of Mansour, police said.

BALAD - Gunmen killed two policemen in Balad, 80 km (50 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

NEAR BALAD - A roadside bomb killed two girls and wounded their father near Balad, police said.

DIYALA - A U.S. soldier died from gunshot wounds in Diyala province on Tuesday, the U.S. military said.

BAQUBA - U.S. and Iraqi troops, backed by attack aircraft, killed 19 suspected insurgents in Kabat village near Baquba, 65 km (40 miles) north of Baghdad, on Tuesday, the U.S. military said. Two Iraqi soldiers died in the operation, during which a U.S. soldier and a civilian were also wounded.

BAGHDAD - U.S. and Iraqi forces killed one suspected insurgent and detained three others during an operation in Baghdad on Tuesday, the U.S. military said.

BAGHDAD - U.S. and Iraqi soldiers killed two suspected al Qaeda insurgents and detained 10 others in Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

BAGHDAD - Seven people were killed and 25 wounded when bombs in two parked cars exploded in quick succession in Kadhimiya, a Shi'ite district in north-eastern Baghdad, police said.

NAJAF - A local representative of Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, the reclusive spiritual leader of Iraq's Shi'ite majority, was gunned down outside his home on Tuesday, Sistani's office and police said.

BAIJI - Gunmen killed a police officer in a drive-by shooting in the oil refinery city of Baiji on Tuesday, police said.

MOSUL - One police officer was killed and another wounded when gunmen attacked their patrol in Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.
